March Hotline – Golf
Rain, rain, go away and (don’t) come back another day. I keep telling everybody how great Branch 8’s golf program is. That’s because amongst other things, a lot of Branches hibernate in December and January and hang up their clubs. Not us. Your golf committee keeps working and scheduling and the only reason we hang the clubs up is to dry. Before I forget, mark your calendars for May 16th and 17th. Those are the dates for our annual trek to Carmel for two fun filled days of golf, a cocktail party and dinner. It’s also a chance for your significant others to see how much fun Sirs have. Sign up sheets will be forthcoming but tell your wives and/or social secretaries now because they need more time to prepare for such things. Also don’t forget the State Sirs Golf outing in Reno in June. There are three weeks to choose from. You undoubtedly will have received the brochure by now but read it carefully. The length of stay, prices and courses to play are different.
Interesting round at Deer Ridge, Feb. 7th. The top four players led by Bill Cooke all had great rounds. There were others, of course, but space is limited. Bill broke 90 with an 88, net 61. Jack Holzinger (second place) broke 100 with a net 62. Leo Barrella (third) broke 90 for a net 65. And Don Cashman broke 80 for a net 65. Those scores will proudly stay on your index cards for a long time. Congratulations laddies!
Bill Sullivan tore up Boundary Oaks in January with two consecutive closest to the pin wins. Both birdies! One was a five foot putt but one shot was only 19 inches out. An inch closer and it would have been a legitimate gimmie but he made it anyway. Nice putt, Bill!
