Bargain wines

Our particular venue of Bargain Wines is ad hoc and unlike many SIR activities is only held 4-5 times during the year.  We did just finish our first foray for the new year at Buon Vino in Walnut Creek.   Our experience and the numerous comments on this establishment lead me to believe we will return.
With a new Hotline submission coming due soon, I can report that we are currently evaluating a location in Martinez recommended by our own Ron Cassano. Once anything is formalized the members will be notified.

History: SIR Bargain Wines began as a new activity in 2010. The concept is simple. We attempt to find a nice bottle of wine at a decent price from many of the local stores known for recurring sales or bargain prices. Our meetings are called on an ad hoc basis, usually 4-6 times a year. A roster of participants is maintained so information can be sent with a date for the next event. Reservation are made on a first come basis and a group is selected to purchase the wines for tasting.

This activity is usually couples, however singles and significant others are welcome. Every attempt is made to invite guests as we find our venue is a very good way to introduce prospective members to the SIR family. We taste and evaluate the selections of red and white wines and publish our findings to the entire membership so anyone wishing to take a chance on our selections has access. Cost for our event will run between $12 and $15 per person to taste about 9-10 selections with hors d’oeuvres provided. Dinner to follow will usually include our left over wines with individuals ordering off a menu and separate checks.
